The tea leaves are hand-picked from tea gardens in China and India. “Pluckers” select the delicate top two leaves and bud from the Camellia sinensis plant, which is the single source of the black, green, white, and oolong varieties Honest Tea brews. Once the leaves are plucked, they are dried and processed through heat and oxidation, a natural chemical reaction of the leaf’s enzymes to alter its flavor, color, and aroma. Water is heated and the leaves are then steeped just before bottling, ensuring a flavorful, natural final product. Whenever possible, the spent tea leaves are added to compost, helping to enrich the soil at farms near their brewing facilities, making their business green and environmentally friendly.
