HONDURAS BELEN GUALCHO

Belén Gualcho is a small community in the far western part of Honduras, nearing the border of El Salvador. Over the past three years, we have been buying very small amounts of coffee from individual producers part of the 35-member COMIXBEL coop. There were goals to increase volume, but quality was difficult and many of the producers were still learning what it took to produce delicious coffee consistently. This year, we decided to create a blend of coffees from individual producers which scored within a specific range so we could create a larger lot with more consistency, rather than singling out some producers and leaving others behind that were almost scoring as high as we wanted. The shift in strategy worked out great on both ends! Not only do we dig this coffee, we feel it shows great potential for future years as well.
